Here are, 5 Emerging Bakeries in Kolkata you must visit after the Lockdown ends:

1. King’s Bakery

The city’s nomnom factor just got a bog bang. Annyeonghaseyo to the King’s Bakery!! The first Korean bakery of Kolkata— from bread to buns, donuts, coffee, bowl meals, pickles to traditional Korean hanbok clothing! The places boasts about all of it.

Seok Jung, a trained Barista from Korea and his wife, Sojin Lee started this bakery recently in Newtown Area Everything here is worth picking up. Traditional Korean breads with toppings like the soboro or the mocha bun are the people’s favourites! The Korean twisted donuts, red bean bread, custard buns and the, mini choux are mesmerizing in taste and looks. And the cheese and corn stuffed bread with its cheesy filling, and sweet corn topping will make you statitee!

What got people really hooked into is the Korean mixed coffee with its potent aroma and full-bodied flavour. This pitstop for a Korean fix  is really affordable. Also, traditional Korean meals are also available here.

Pocket Pinch: Rs 600 for a whole meal for two. Rs 300 for sweet and savoury for two.

2. 8th Day Cafe

Grand Entrance of 8th Day Cafe and Bakery

Before I say anything about this place, I’ll let the image above do the talking. Located at Southern Avenue, on block down from Zucca Lounge is this beautiful Cafe cum Bakery of the town! The signature white store front with grey lettering and a delightful outdoor sitting arrangement is a charm of its own.

Glancing into the white-brick walled and dark-wood-furniture dotted cafe, the first thing that’ll you will get to see is the sleeky beautiful gold-and-black coffee machine that sits in the corner peeking the street, preparing to woo you with it’s beautiful aroma. From the gnarly food to the beautiful ambience , this place has it all.

3. Patisserie by Franziska

Walking down Russell Street, near The Good Companions, you will come across this subtle place called Patisserie by Franziska. A beautiful little white front patisserie reminding you of memories of European bakeries you have never visited.

Started by a German Barista, Franziska Marie’s pristine off white store provides you the true essence of European treats and coffee you never have imagined of. Potraying huge range of indulgent and succulent eclairs, tarts, macaroons, tea cakes, cheesecakes, gateau and cookies. Made from fresh and premium ingredients, Franziska goes to great lengths to keep her treats absolutely preservative free.

4. Cocoa Bakery

Outside Cocoa Bakery

This might be one of the most beautiful Bakery i have ever seen. At a street corner near New Alipore, The Cocoa Bakery is a sweet spot for students and couples to hangout. With a small area , filled with few tables and freshly baked goods, this places is reaching its deserving hype.

Sneak Peek of Cocoa Bakery

As the menu concerns, its short amd compact with chocolate, pastries, macaroons and bread. Other than these, they have packets of M&Ms and donuts Their pastries look extremely pretty, and taste just as good as they look. Also providing customised cakes for birthdays and wedding cakes. Although the three tier cakes are slightly expensive than the usual.

Pocket Pinch: Rs 500 for two

Personal Favourite: Truffle Pastry, Croquette Burgers, Chocolate Mudpie

5. Shuktara Cakes

I kept this Bakery last in my list specifically because this has some show stopping skills you never have thought of. This Bakery serves Authentic French recipes which are made by adults who have disabilities. Yes, you read that correct, providing the best of cakes, pastries, bread and much much more of extremely mesmerizing quality made by these really special people. I know you will be teary while reading this.

Mr. Alain Cojean started this charity based bakery in 2013. The boys, Raju, Pinku, Ramesh, Sanjay, Vijay, Ashok and Bapi proved to be wonders! A team of Patisserie chefs including Fabien Rouillard, former Head Executive Pastry Chef at Fauchon, a gourmet food company in Paris taught these boys the art of French Bakery.

Although they have small menu of Cakes and cupcakes, its feels like the taste of heaven in your mouth. The place doesn’t have a sitting arrangements but has a bakery competitive enough with the best.

Pocket Pinch: Rs 500 for 2

Personal Favourite: Marble cake, Caramel cake, Madeleines, Chocolate cupcake.

What’s on Sayan’s mind?

Nahoums & Sons, Estd. 1902

Yet again, we got to understand why Kolkata is one of the finest cities of the world. From European styled bakeries to people with disabilities serving deliciousness. And all of it started when a Jewish family at 1902 started their bakery to serve Hindus and Muslims at a Christian Holiday.
